Merry Christmas!

Greetings! This post is dedicated to my lovely family group ladies, whom I miss so. I arrived at the very warm and very moist Honolulu Airport at 9:26pm on Saturday night, where the handsome Matthew plucked me off the curb and took me home to the soothingly lush and green Manoa Valley. Since that time, it's been a marvelously wonderful whirl-wind of a week, and I apologize for not checking in with you earlier. I hope you each had the loveliest of Christmases, celebrating with family, friends, food, & fun!

The weather here has been most pleasant (had I been expecting otherwise?), and every morning I have the pleasure of waking up to the strange sounds of an authentic rain forest soundtrack -- tropical birds chirping, rain falling upon the arboreal canopies, frogs croaking, insects purring -- the whole nine yards. These unique harmonies are more often than not accompanied by a vibrant strip of color arching from one end of the valley to the other. I understand now why there's a rainbow on Hawaii's license plates -- I've seen more in the past week than I have in my entire lifetime!

// Content has been moved to another entry. //

It is at this point that I shall bid adieu for the time being. It's time to get ready for another day! Miss you all lots! I'll do my very best to update again soon, with entries chock-full of photos for your enjoyment, of course. Love love!

Insomnia

I've been in bed since midnight but haven't been able to fall asleep. I'm not sure if it's due to the tea I had at Irene's tonight (I learned earlier this year that I have hypersensitivity to caffeine) or test anxiety regarding my 6am final tomorrow. Regardless, rather than laying in bed with an abounding of thoughts running erratically through my head, I've decided to return to my trusty computer and document some of these crazies.

Family group.
I'm so thankful for this group of lovely girls. It's one time I definitely look forward to each week, and we always have a hard time getting started with our agenda, but it's only because the chemistry is so great and we have so much catching up to do every week. I'm excited to go to Hawaii, but I'm genuinely sad about having to not see you girls for three weeks. Love & kisses.

Dresses.
This is pretty trivial, but I want to go shopping for dresses. I love sitting around in jeans and a t-shirt or turtle-neck, but dresses are so fun! I want to find dresses that I will keep for at least 5-7 years, though. Avoiding trends is the key.

Pebbles.
I had bought a satchel of natural-looking pebbles from Michaels this summer to fill a small vase, and ended up having more than half left over. While at my computer one day, I conveniently grabbed a sharpie that was nearby and began drawing happy faces on the pebbles. I think it'd be fun to randomly leave these happy campers around for people to find. Would you be delighted if you sat down on a park bench one day and found a smiling pebble resting merrily next to you? I think I would.

On being a sister.
One of my younger brothers has come to me lately about his crush. I think it's the most adorable thing! First off, I feel honored that he'd approach me on this subject, because, being ten years older than he is, I was slightly worried that I'd be seen more as a parental figure than a sister figure. Anyhow, apparently, I'm still 'cool' enough to be in on the juicy stuff. Yay! On a serious note, though, it's gotten me to think about the kind of influence I have on my younger brothers' perceptions of romantic relationships, and how I can potentially guide them. I made far too many mistakes in my day, and I'd like to think that if I had an older sister to talk about those things with, I might've made different choices. Now, granted I'm the opposite gender from my two younger siblings, and I wouldn't be anything like an older brother, so there's not really any point in trying, but I hope that I have the maturity, discipline, and wisdom to guide my brothers to make decisions they won't regret.

The boy.
Warning: mushy material. Stop reading here if you have sensitive gag-reflexes. =P

Last warning.

Okay. Here goes.

We're at about the two-and-a-half-year mark, and I can't believe it's all happened so quickly. Matt is seriously like no person I've ever met before, and it's been a great journey of learning and teaching and laughing and growing for both of us. I don't think I reflect on how lucky I am in the "boy department" enough, especially lately, being busy with school and work and family and friends, but I think it's important for people to make a conscious effort to be appreciative of the people we have in our lives. Especially after a couple of years, I think it's human nature to take for granted the people who mean most to us, especially if those individuals are constantly and reliably there. Matt's always there for me, even when we're 400 miles apart. Whether he does it by writing the shortest emails from work, or sending me flowers simply because I'm stressed out over finals, or calling me at night before he goes to bed, he does a good job of letting me know that he hasn't forgotten about me and that he treasures our relationship. And he always makes me laugh, sometimes when I don't even want to. Fancy that. I guess this reflection is a reminder to myself that I never want to let my Matty feel under appreciated, especially because he's someone who means so much to me. Normally, an entry this disgustingly gross would go in my private blog, but I'm in the mood for a public declaration of love. Maybe I'm delirious because it's two in the morning and I've been studying all day, but oh well! Thanks, Matty, for being wonderful! :)

So proud, so broke

I had a revelation last night. I haven't purchased anything for myself since July of this year. No new clothes, shoes, hats, scarves, anything for five months! Maybe it's due to that fact that I have neither the time nor the money to shop, but I think it's quite a feat. Congrats to me!

I was awoken at 8am this morning by the loud Chinese chattering (the loudest kind) of my parents' friends who came over for a day of mahjong. I guess mom and dad have extra vacation days left that'll go to waste if they don't use 'em by the end of 2008? It's good, because they work so hard all the time, and they definitely deserve a break. But anyway, this being woken up unexpectedly at 8am was not the most pleasant thing, especially after going to bed last night at the late hour of 4am. I had burned the midnight oil this evening prior, finishing up my final paper for Linguistic Phonetics: a derivational analysis of coronal assimilation of the sun and moon letters in Arabic, and another derivational analysis of different features in Polish. I know it sounds like a bunch of mumbo jumbo, but this class was definitely interesting, and I'd recommend a phonetics & phonology course to anyone who has some extra room in their schedule!

Anyhow, with Linguistics & Audiology out of the way, here is my finals scoreboard:
two down, three to go!

I hate my life!

Okay, not really. I'm just a tad stressed, so I'm feelin' grumpy. BUT... in precisely seven days, I'll love my life again. Seven days. That's when finals will be over. Pray for me! :)

Note to self: Had a great morning today. Made friends with an 11-year old ASD girl who shook my hand, and said "Hi my name is Stacey*. It's very nice to meet you. Would you like to be friends?" Awww talk about something to warm your heart. If I were completely selfless, I'd want to be a special ed teacher. But no, I'm way too selfish for that. Let's stick with SLP. G'bye!

*name has been changed, not for reasons of confidentiality, but because I don't want anyone to steal my new friend. Rawr.
